What causes Photosensitivity?
There is no exact answer to what causes photosensitivity, but it is clear that symptoms tend to start or recur stemming from the state of the immune system. The first bout of photosensitivity usually occurs when someone with eczema is first exposed to high amounts of sunlight (sunburn). Although genetics often plays a factor to its cause, the overuse of scented cosmetics, sunscreens, perfumes, and even certain medications can also become factors which cause photosensitivity.

Red macula or discharge is also sometimes a symptom that was caused by photosensitivity. The use of other types of ointment or medication to treat these symptoms may result in the thickening of skin causing it to become leathery. The parts of the body most exposed to the sun such as the neck, arms, legs, hands, feet, and face are considered to be the most vulnerable to photosensitivity, but this does not limit symptoms to just these areas.
How to treat/prevent Photosensitivity?
In order to treat photosensitivity correctly, it is crucial to begin by removing the waste and toxins accumulated inside the skin. The next step would be to maintain the healthy skin and restore a weakened skin barrier. Along with this, there are steps to
take before exposing the skin to the sun as well. The best method is to cover up from the sun since using too much sunscreen will aggravate the skin barrier. So be sure to wash off the sunscreen after being exposed to the sun with natural soap as well.
